Keeping Your Breast Implants In Position

After getting breast implants, a rind of tissue called a capsule forms. These capsules corral the implant so it stays well positioned. However, occasionally the capsule can harden, resulting in the breast looking and feeling firm.

This capsular contracture can harden further, causing your breast to become more firm and more painful. This contracture can also cause minor displacement to your implant.

Call board-certified Dr. Jacqueline Royce DO of Royce Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery PA for a free consultation on your capsular contracture.

Capsular Contracture Options

  • Remove the capsule and implants
  • Exchange implants and remove the capsule

Getting an implant exchange, also runs the risk of another capsular contracture. In some cases, we will add acellular dermal matrix (ADM) which is helpful with recurrent capsular contractures.

Recovery Times for Capsular Contractures

Recovery times can differ based on the procedure type. Usually, you will need at least 7 days off work before returning if it is not too strenuous. Avoid all exercises for four weeks and chest exercises for 8 weeks.
